Two weeks ago, when the October Issue of Fast Company hit my mailbox, I was DELIGHTED to see Arlan Hamilton, Founder and CEO of Backstage Capital, gracing the cover.
“Our mandate is to cover the future of business and when we reached out to Arlan and got a better idea of what she was trying to invest in [with her funds], we were very aligned,” per Stephanie Mehta, who recently accepted the role of editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
Judging from Arlan's own response on Instagram, the cover was also a surprise to her as well. The buzz, appreciation, and love she has received was clearly not anticipated by Arlan or her team.
In my mind, I can't imagine a woman in tech right now who would be more deserving of the honor. Far to often, the accomplishments of women, especially women of color, go overlooked and undervalued. Not this time. Arlan's face deserves to be on news stands across American and her commitment to diversifying tech needs to be shared.
